The UC Berkeley Library includes a helpful page with tips on contacting an elected official. It is recommended that you read that guide in full, but a few tips are summarized here.
-
Include a call to action
Tell your representative what you want them to do. Be as specific as possible. -
Be original
Use the messages found on this site as a guide, but an original, handwritten message will show intent and will land more strongly. This is why we do not include messages on the backs of postcards. -
Include your address
Especially if you are contacting an elected official, including your street address with affirm that you are a constituent and not an out-of-district "bot". This will make your message harder to ignore.
